The region of Lower Silesia in South West of Poland has one of the
highest concentration of castles in Europe. In the 17th century especially the Jelenia Gora valley at the foot of Giant Mountains was chosen by the members of the Prussian Royal Family,
peers and upper-class men to build their summer residences there.
Most
of these palaces and manors left to decay during the communist time
after 1945 when german families had to escape from Silesia. Nowadays,
more than 20 years after the fall of the Iron Curtain, lots of palaces
are rebuilt, renovated and used as hotels.
